How would you like to become a Contributing Writer for Talk Piqua?
We sure could use your help!
So what's the catch? No catch.
First off, a little about what we're looking for. We're looking for people with some form of background in journalism, blogging, or writing in some capacity. No, you don't necessarily need a degree or formal experience. This isn't a paid position and you aren't bound to provide us with exclusive content so we're not going to be super picky about what we're looking for. However, we don't want people who lack the ability to spell, form complete sentences, or speak without a clear political bias. As you see, we have a News | Weather | Sports section of the website. We don't just want to embed a web scraper tool to pick up local stories from other sources and display them here. We would like to provide our own source of news. Some of it may be posted on other sites, some of it may be exclusive here. As the author of the content, that's solely up to you. If you run a local blog and wish to share your content here, that's great! You can even link your blog in your stories so those who enjoy them can check out your other material that may not be posted here. If you work for a local news organization and want to contribute to our section, by all means, please do! We mainly want to focus on the local stuff--breaking news, city politics (ie the city's proposed rental registration program), community events, highschool sports, severe/significant weather events, etc. If it would show up in the local newspaper, we want to see it posted here. Right now we have just a few article categories, but as we grow, we can modify them to include more categories.
If this sounds like something you're interested in, please drop us an email at help@talkpiqua.com and ask us to approve you as a Contributing Writer. If you have a sample of your material, please provide it as well. Once your account is approved, we will let you know, and you will be able to hop right onto this section and start submitting your articles.
Your help will be very much appreciated!

by JoshSo, ESRG came right into our town
And burned up some batt'ries, 'til they were all black and brown
Well they burned 'em all up, then they brought some more down
They'd have kept it all up 'til in our graves we were layin'
We gotta do something before, in the toxins, we drown
For the times, they are a changin'
So the citizens brought the commissioners questions, galore
And made them all sad 'til their feelings were sore
So they drafted an...-

by JoshThere are currently 4 out of 5 seats open on Piqua's City Commission. A new commissioner for Ward 4 will be nominated in the near future by the current sitting city commission, per the process spelled out in the City Charter, after Commissioner Chris Grissom announced he would be stepping down during the September 5th City Commission meeting. Ward 2 will be replaced by Paul Simmons, who is running unopposed for Mayor Cindy Pearson's seat after she chose not to seek re-election. Ward 1 and Ward 5...
