To assist in finding any missing pets, please include the following information:
- Pet's Name
- Detailed description
- Last known location
- Any other information that may assist in finding them
- Your contact information (remember it's easy to forget to check the replies everywhere you posted or they may choose to PM you and you aren't always checking for PMs--posting a cell number that can be reached via call or text helps tremendously)
- Call the Miami County Animal Shelter and give them a description of the pet
- Place the pet inside your house or secure it in your yard until the owner can be found or it can be taken to the animal shelter (the animal shelter will often pick up strays as well if you call them)
- Take the found pet to your local vet and have them check it for a microchip
- If the pet has tags on it, you can call the Miami County Animal Shelter with the tag numbers and they can attempt to reach the owner for you
- When you are contacted by the owners, make sure they offer you proof of ownership--tag numbers, description of collar (post photos without the collar visible so they can describe it to you), name, description, or anything else that makes you comfortable they are the rightful owner.
- If the found pet is a little timid around you, check when the owner arrives to pick it up and see if it appears excited to see its owner--if it acts as if it has never met them before and the "proof" they provided is sketchy, it's possible they are not the rightful owner.
Thank you!
